Film London Jarman Award: A Journey Through the First Decade at the Whitechapel Gallery

15 May - 10 June 2018

Please note that the Exhibition is now closed

To celebrate the first decade of the Film London Jarman Award, FLAMIN held a survey exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery, featuring works by the ten winners of the Award alongside a number of short films co-commissioned with Channel 4.

Since 2008, the Award has celebrated the creative spirit of artists working today, rewarding challenging and innovative work and helping to establish the place of the moving image within the art world. This exhibition provided a survey of the artists' shifting concerns, techniques and use of media throughout the Award's first decade.

The exhibition included work by previous winners from 2008-2017:
Luke Fowler
Lindsay Seers
Emily Wardill
Anja Kirschner & David Panos
James Richards
John Smith
Ursula Mayer
Seamus Harahan
Heather Phillipson
Oreet Ashery

Whitechapel Gallery also presented a special event devoted to Jarman's work, with guest speakers and screenings of Glitterbug, Wittgenstein and Blue. Taking place on Saturday 26 May 2018, Derek Jarman Now provided a background to his practice and put the Award in context.
