The Jarman Award

The Shortlist

Reflecting the diversity and breadth of contemporary artists' moving image practice in the UK, the work of the 2016 Jarman Award shortlist represents a bold array of approaches and subject matter, as well as providing an important snapshot of the country's very best moving image artists working today.

Encompassing single-screen works and immersive gallery installations, and variously employing animation, CGI and YouTube footage, the works mine a varied pool of inspirations, from the glitz of Gulf culture, future worlds and forgotten landscapes, to poetic pop montages musing on consumerism and new technology.

Find out about the artists in their profiles, with an overview of their background, excerpts from their work, and interviews about their practice, Derek Jarman, and what it means to be nominated for the award.
