Old Versus New

Date posted: 18.12.2006

On Thursday 15 February 2007 (7 – 9pm) AMIN, together with Own It present Old Versus New. This free seminar addresses the use of archive footage in artists’ moving image work.

The seminar, which takes place at the Whitechapel Gallery, will discuss the burgeoning use of moving image archives, as well as attempting to demystify common copyright issues arising through the use of such material.

What are the implications for commercial films when artists and film-makers incorporate archive footage into their work, essentially creating something new from something old?

Despite the fact that archive footage organisations are increasingly opening up their collections to artist residency programmes, who actually owns this footage and what are the implications of presenting work that features archive material, which is then used in a public setting?

Guest speakers will include artists Vicki Bennett and Paul Bush and legal expert Sean Egan. Who will discuss the necessary steps to access available archive material and the resulting privacy and licensing issues.

For further information and to book a place for this seminar please visit the Own It website. Own It offer free intellectual property advice for London's creative people.
