  • Andrew Kötting at the National Film Theatre *

    On Tuesday 27 February (6.30pm) NFT1 will host the London premiere of Andrew Kötting's 2006 LAFVA-funded Offshore (gallivant).

    Offshore follows a 14hr 17min cross channel relay swim by film-maker Andrew Kötting, his brothers, friends and family. Witnessed by Iain Sinclair and narrated by Eden Kötting the film starts with Kötting's coincidental discovery and hire of the light vessel 'Gallivant', and revisits the original coastline road-movie Gallivant.

    Following the screening Andrew Kötting will be in discussion with writer Iain Sinclair.

  • Deadline Extension: One to One Advice Sessions *

    Film London Artists' Moving Image Network's latest programme of developmental one to one advice sessions is now open for applications.

    Up to six artists will be selected to take part in a programme of three to four bespoke sessions which will be scheduled from March to May 2007. Artists are invited to apply specifying particular areas of focus that they feel would best serve to develop their career and practice.

    The deadline for applications is now Wednesday 7 March.

  • Fine Art to Film *

    Is fine art film if it's shown in the cinema? How is a film affected by being shown in a gallery? When is an artist an artist and when is she a film-maker? Birds Eye View, in partnership with Film London Artists' Moving Image Network, will explore the increasingly regularly crossed boundary between fine art and film.

    In a panel discussion groundbreaking artists and film-makers, including LAFVA-funded Carol Morley, Clio Barnard and Miranda Pennell, will show extracts of their work. A screening of The Family, an Artists' Moving Image Network-supported work, from Turner Prize winning Gillian Wearing.

    The session which is part of the Bird's Eye View Film Festival will take place at 6.30pm, Monday 12 March at the ICA. Further information can be found on the Birds Eye View website.
  • Capture5 Award Announcement

    CAPTURE, the national, strategic agency for dance and the moving image has announced the names of the recipients of the seven Capture5 awards.

    The artists receiving Capture5 awards are: Tanya Syed and Sama Fabian for Luminous Object; Gina Czarnecki and Ulf Langheinrich for New Work; Joanna Callaghan and Frauke Requardt for Still Moving; John Wood and Paul Harrison for 3 Works; Tim Shore, Gary Thomas and Anais Bouts for Burlesque; Brothers Quay, Kim Brandstrup and Zenaida Yanowsky for Orfeo; Marc Downie and Open Ended Group (Paul Kaiser and Shelley Eshkar) in association with Urban Freeflow for Break.

  • Call for Submissions - Take Part in Act Art 5

    Act Art aims to create an event that celebrates difference within artistic practices, supports cross-discipline ways of working and offers a safe environment to exhibit work in all disciplines, including live art, performance, video, installation and selected 2D and 3D work. With a particular emphasis on works that are experimental, challenging and non-mainstream.

    The deadline for proposals is 28 February.

    Act Art 5 will take place at the Arches (51-53 Southwark Street, London Bridge) from Friday 8 June.

  • Call for Submissions - International Congress Art Tech Media 2007

    The First International Art Tech Media Congress will take place in Madrid from 8-11 May. It has been set up in order to reflect upon and analyse questions currently being raised about art and new technological media within an international context.

    They are looking for submissions from the following categories: Video art; Net-art; Computer Animation. The works must have been produced after 1 January 2005 and there is no limit to the number of works you can submit.

  • Call for Submissions - Visions in the Nunnery – Bow Arts Trust

    Visions in the Nunnery is a showcase opportunity for new and established artists who are pushing the elements of film, video and moving image practice. It is also an opportunity for audiences to engage with contemporary moving image work.

    The curators are looking for new and compelling work created in any format (that is moving image, film or video based). The work selected will be either projected or be monitor based. They are also interested in performance works that relate to the moving image.

    The deadline for submissions is 16 March.

  • no.w.here Courses

    Throughout February and March no.w.here will be running a series of courses including: Rostrum animation camera, Saturday 24 February, 10.30am – 5pm, cost £55; Super 8 shooting and hand processing, Saturday 3 March, 10.30am – 6pm, cost £65; Bolex 16mm camera, Saturday 10 March, 9.30am – 6pm, cost £100.

  • Call for Submissions - The Bigger Picture

    The Bigger Picture is inviting proposals for the production of exceptional new public realm works to be launched on Big Screen Manchester at the time of the Urban Screens Conference Manchester 07 (11 - 12 October), and to tour to partner city Big Screens and public sites throughout 2007/8.

    Four new works will be commissioned, each with an attached fee of £5,000 based on an agreed budget, of up to £10,000 for production. There are 4 National Commissioning partners, Cornerhouse (Manchester), ENTER (Cambridge), Lumen (Leeds) and Site Gallery (Sheffield). Each will lead on the production of one of the works.

    The deadline for proposals is 30 March.

  • Reminder: Film London's Film-makers' Festival Fund

    Film London's Film-makers' Festival Fund (FFF) is open for applications. The fund aims to support the development of moving image artists' and film-makers' careers, by providing travel grants for attendance at a number of overseas festivals where films have been selected and are in competition. The full list of eligible festivals can be downloaded from the Film London website.

    In a number of festivals where films are in competition, contributions are also available towards costs of striking a first film print or production of digital masters where required by the festival for screening.

  • And finally…

    The Showroom is presenting the first solo show in London by the collaborative partnership Pil and Galia Kollectiv (recent participants in the Artists' Moving Image Network One to One Programme). They will present a gallery-based exhibition documenting a unique and not to be missed performance of 'Asparagus: A Horticultural Ballet' at Conway Hall, featuring live music by the acclaimed Les Georges Leningrad from Montréal.

    The show starts on 7 March and runs until 15 April. Opening hours are 1pm to 6pm, Wednesday to Sunday. Tickets cost £5 and are available on the door and in advance from The Showroom.
