Bristol Mean Time

Date posted: 17.07.2007

Emily Wardill has been announced as the recipient of the Film London Artists’ Moving image Network (FLAMIN) Bristol Mean Time residency.

Emily will be working at Picture This' new Atelier space in Bristol, from July to October 2007. During which time the artist will develop a new work provisionally titled Sick Serena and Dregs and Wreck and Wreck, which will be shown in Picture This' exhibition space in October and November.

Inspired by Pasolini’s controversial La Ricotta, Wardill plans to produce a short film reflecting on the use of allegory within British stained glass. The artist will work with actors to develop scenes within specially constructed sets which borrow from religious iconography, superstition and slapstick comedy.

Emily Wardill has previously worked across a variety of different media, investigating the relationship between objects and the ideas which they express. From a re-staging of the Black Feast in Huysman’s ‘A Rebours’ to more recent projects working with the use of melodrama within political rhetoric.

Emily graduated from Central St Martins in 2000. Her recent exhibitions include; Art Now Lightbox at Tate Britain (2006); High Risk Painting at Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art, Sunderland (2006); Le Voyage Interieur at Espace Electra, Paris (2005) and KinoMuseum, a programme of artists’ film curated by Ian White and Emily Pethick for the Oberhausen film festival in Germany (2007).

The Bristol Mean Time residency offers one London based artist film-maker the chance to develop new moving image work in a unique supportive and creative environment. Providing the selected artist with access to full production, post-production and exhibition technology, studio and office space at Picture This.

Picture This is a Bristol based agency that draws upon its unique understanding of moving image technology and contemporary art to produce and exhibit new art works involving a diverse range of collaborators and audiences.

FLAMIN are committed to offering residency opportunities for London-based artists to develop their moving image practice and produce new work in a supportive environment. Applications are currently open for FURTHER 3, a three month London based residency opportunity for three artists hosted by no.w.here.

Further 3 will run from 4 September to 4 December 2007. The deadline for applications is Monday 20 August.

For full details and application forms call no.w.here on 020 7372 3925 or visit the no.w.here website for downloadable forms and information.
