- Locations For Artists *
As part of Film London Artists' Moving Image Network's (FLAMIN) ongoing series of workshops for artists, Locations for Artists will offer information and advice on sourcing and shooting in a range of locations.
The session will examine the process, from looking through the script; discussing locations with an art director or designer; scouting and finding the location; getting the permissions; setting up and running the shoot and wrapping up the location.
Susie Williams, Locations & Filming Manager at Film London, will provide an overview of the Film London Locations Department and Locations Library. Following which location manager Crispin Buxton will draw on his experience working in TV drama and feature film to offer advice on finding and negotiating the use of both interior and exterior locations.
The session will take place on Wednesday 22 August (3 - 5pm) at the Film London offices in Shoreditch. There is no charge to attend the session.

- One to One Advice Sessions *
FLAMIN's latest programme of developmental one to one advice sessions is now open for applications.
Up to six artists will be selected to take part in a programme of three to four bespoke sessions which will be scheduled from March to May 2007. Artists are invited to apply specifying particular areas of focus that they feel would best serve to develop their career and practice.
The deadline for applications is now Monday 3 September.

- FURTHER 3 – Call for Applications *
A 3-month moving image residency for 3 London-based visual artists interested in developing film projects, FURTHER 3 will be hosted by no.w.here, in partnership with Artquest and FLAMIN.
The residency includes: access to no.w.here film equipment, training, resources and expertise; bespoke workshops, mentoring and networking; materials budget and a year-long membership to no.w.here artist film lab.
FURTHER 3 will run from 4 September to 4 December 2007. The deadline for applications is Tuesday 21 August, and applicants must be available for interview week beginning 27 August.

- FLAMIN at the Portobello Film Festival - Finding Funds *
This year's Portobello Film Festival takes place between Sunday 1 and Saturday 21 August and presents a varied programme of film screenings, talks, events and exhibitions at various venues in West London.
As part of the festival, Rose Cupit, Manager of FLAMIN, will discuss the LAFVA scheme and other opportunities for funding for artist film-makers, and will screen some films supported by the scheme, including recent work by Andrew Kötting, Esther Johnson, Roz Mortimer and Tim Shore.
The session will take place on Monday 6 August (6 - 8pm) at Westbourne Studios. There is no charge to attend the event, and no booking is required.

- Film London Film-makers' Festival Fund – Call for Applications
The Film London Film-makers' Festival Fund (FFF) is now open for 2007 / 2008 applications. The fund aims to support the development of moving image artists' and film-makers' careers, by providing travel grants for attendance at a number of overseas festivals where films have been selected and are in competition.
Deadlines for the fund will take place on a monthly basis, the next is 17 August.

- Bristol Mean Time - Artist Announced *
Emily Wardill has been announced as the recipient of the FLAMIN Bristol Mean Time residency.
Emily will be working at Picture This' new Atelier space in Bristol, from July to October 2007. During this time one artist will develop a new work, which will be shown in Picture This' exhibition space in October and November.
The Bristol Mean Time residency offers one London based artist film-maker the chance to develop new moving image work in a unique supportive and creative environment.

- animate Announces New Commissions for Broadcast and Online
animate is proud to announce seven new commissions, selected from 130 submissions. They explore a variety of themes, including ecology, mental health and creativity, and the forgotten military history of a bleak East Anglia landscape. Techniques include time-lapse film, hand drawn rotoscope, and animated ceramic hybrid characters. For the first time, animate is supporting two online commissions for broadband.
The commissioned artists' are: Barnaby Barford, Suky Best, 2003 LAFVA-funded Emily Richardson, Tal Rosner, Christoph Steger, and, for online, Stephen Irwin and Michael Aubtin Madadi. animate provides production funding up to £20,000, and the films will be broadcast on Channel 4 in autumn 2008.

- Documenta 12
This summer's Documenta 12 (16 June – 23 September) brings together work by over 150 artists encompassing all forms of contemporary art practice including a broad component of moving image work.
Held every five years in the German city of Kassel, Documenta is regarded as one of the most important exhibitions of contemporary art, and has historically exerted a unique influence over the western art world.
In collaboration with Documenta's film programme a trailer taken from a short film by previous LAFVA awardee Mark Lewis will be screening before main features at cinemas across Germany throughout the course of the exhibition.

- Reversing Horizons
Reversing Horizons is an exhibition, curated by Chang Tsong-zung and Gao Shiming. It features over 30 of Hong Kong's up-and-coming contemporary artists including LAFVA-awardee Suki Chan with her film Interval.
The works illustrate the cultural developments in Hong Kong taking place over the past decade, since the hand over of Hong Kong in 1997.
The exhibition runs from 8 July – 8 August, at Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA Shanghai) in China.

- motiroti - Open Invitation to Artists - Film Proposal for 60x60 Secs
360º is motiroti's three-year programme of exchanges that will bring to light a rounded and contemporary picture of the cultural dynamics between Britain, India and Pakistan. Sixty films, several international artists' residencies, numerous publications and a new collaboration will bring artists together, to excite imaginations and explore the role that art can play in shaping communication and insight, across boundaries of culture and geography. 60x60 Secs is the first project of this programme.
60x60 Secs is offering 60 one-minute film commissions to sixty artists living in Britain, India and Pakistan, who define themselves as coming from the South Asian diaspora. Established and emerging artists, working in a variety of mediums and spanning a wide age range, are invited to present their unique views on how their identities are informed in an age of globalisation.
The deadline for applications is 14 September.

- onedotzero
onedotzero is currently open for submissions of original moving image work across motion graphic, music video, documentary, narrative shorts, fashion, and environment. In addition to single screen works, they are interested in receiving proposals for installations, interactive works and live performance.
The deadline for submissions is 10 August.

- Recontres Internationales – Call for Applications
The Rencontres Internationales will take place in Paris in November 2007, in Madrid in April 2008 and in Berlin in June 2008. The three events will propose an international programming focusing on film, video and multimedia.
They are looking for works by artists and film-makers acknowledged on the international scene along with young artists and early career film-makers who haven't had much distribution.
There is no charge to submit work. The deadline for submissions is 15 August.

- Reminder: Piemonte Share Award - Digital Art Prize 2008
Piemonte Share Festival announces the second edition of the Share Prize 2008 for digital art. The competition jury will award a prize of €2,500 to the work (published or unpublished) which best represents experimentation between arts and new technologies.
The deadline for applications is 30 September.

- Reminder: University College London Hospitals (UCLH) Arts Commission
UCLH Arts, UCLH NHS Foundation Trust arts project, aims to improve the hospital environment and patient wellbeing through the use of a varied and stimulating arts programme. They are looking for moving image artists, recent graduates and emerging artists to produce work which will be shown on The Screen in the reception of University College London Hospital, and will become part of UCLH Arts permanent art collection.
The fee offered for the project is £6,000, plus £300 development fee for the short-listed artists. The deadline for applications is 6 August, and the work needs to be produced by 16 November.

The latest issue of Vertigo magazine has just been released, exploring the way in which we generate faith and meaning through the moving image.
