  • Graham Ellard and Stephen Johnstone Premiere Screening *

    The London premiere screening of Graham Ellard and Stephen Johnstone's 2006 LAFVA-funded Proposal, for an unmade film (set in the future) will take place on Tuesday 10 July (6.10pm). The event forms part of the Film London Artists' Moving Image Network's (FLAMIN) ongoing series of artists' screenings at the newly reopened BFI Southbank.

    The programme will also include a single-screen version of the artists' recent twelve channel video installation Motion Path which was filmed in the buildings of Erich Mendelsohn.

    The screenings will be introduced by Chris Darke, author of 'Alphaville' and 'Light Readings; Film Criticism and Screen Arts', and followed by a short discussion with the artists.

  • Anna Lucas: Here and Your Here *

    Anna Lucas' 2007 LAFVA-funded Uña de Gato will be showing as part of 'Here and Your Here', a solo exhibition presenting three major new film commissions.

    The exhibition runs from 30 June until 19 August, at FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) in Liverpool, and presents Lucas' new work Uña de Gato alongside Atlantic Botanic and Kaff Mariam.

  • Film London Film-makers' Festival Fund – Open for Applications

    The Film London Film-makers' Festival Fund (FFF) is now open for 2007 / 2008 applications.

    Deadlines for the fund will take place on a monthly basis, the next is Friday 13 July.

  • University College London Hospitals Arts Commission

    University College London Hospitals (UCLH) Arts, UCLH NHS Foundation Trust art's project, aims to improve the hospital environment and patient wellbeing through the use of a varied and stimulating arts programme. They are looking for moving image artists, recent graduates and emerging artists to produce work which will be shown on The Screen in the reception of University College London Hospital, and will become part of UCLH Arts permanent art collection.

    The fee offered for the project is £6,000, plus £300 development fee for the short-listed artists. The deadline for applications is 6 August, and the work needs to be produced by 16 November.

  • Britdoc '07 - Documentary Meets Art

    To build on the momentum of Britdoc '06, Britdoc '07 (25 – 27 July) has introduced a theme – Documentary Meets Art. Through a range of screenings, photographic exhibitions, panel discussions, pitching forums and networking events, artists will be encouraged to engage and explore the potential that art as a form and documentary as a medium has to offer.

    Numerous LAFVA-supported artists are featuring in the festival, including John Smith (LAFVA 2002), Miranda Pennel (LAFVA 2006) and Joe King & Rosie Pedlow (LAFVA 2004) -screening work as part of the Documentary Meets Art Shorts Programme. Kutlug Ataman (LAFVA 2004) will be speaking as part of the Art and Documentary Panel and Joe King (LAFVA 2004) as part of the Animation and Documentary Panel discussions.

  • Flicks Art Exhibition- Call for Moving Image Exhibition

    'Flicks Art Exhibition' is a brand new touring moving image and video art exhibition. It is developed by 'Unseen Dreams', Arts and Film Development Agency, to support the UK-based Asian and Black artists, practicing digital moving image, photography, animation, video and installation. In principle they will support any form of moving image artwork other than films.

    Applications are welcomed from both established and emerging artists. The deadline for applications is Thursday 12 July. Selected artists will have six weeks (15 September – 11 November) to exhibit their work at South Hill Park Arts Centre, Bracknell.

  • Artprojx at Greenland Street

    Artprojx at Greenland Street presents a programme of films by contemporary artists. For each event the artists will be present to talk about their work and talk with the audience.

    Artists featuring in this programme are: Terry Smith (4 July, 7pm), David Austen (5 July), 2006 LAFVA-funded Georgina Starr (7 July, 7pm), Ravi Deepres (18 July), David Blandy (19 July), Zatorski + Zatorski (21 July), Alice Anderson (22 July).

    There is no charge to attend these events but booking is recommended. Seats can be reserved by calling 0151 706 0600 or email info@afoundation.org.uk.

  • Film London Vacancy

    The Administrative Assistant provides cover for reception and essential administrative support for the CEO's office and the organisation. They will deal with a wide range of office tasks.

    The role is a fixed term contract to 31 March 2007. The deadline for applications is Monday 2 July at 5pm.

  • EM Media Vacancy – Locations Co-ordinator

    EM Media is seeking a Locations Co-ordinator to work within Location Services for a period of maternity cover. Location Services is responsible for generating invaluable inward investment for the East Midlands region through ensuring significant film and television shoots take place across the six counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Rutland.

  • Reminder: The Independent Cinema Office (ICO) presents Developing Audiences for Artists' Moving Image Work

    This essential one-day training course is aimed at cinemas who want to start or develop an artists' film programme; mixed arts venues who want to integrate their cinema and gallery more comprehensively; and galleries who are interested in forging links with cinemas.

    Course tutors will include George Clark (ICO), Ian White (Adjunct Curator of Film, Whitechapel Gallery) and Sarah Wood (freelance curator and writer).

    The course will take place from 9.45am – 5.00pm on Wednesday 25 July at the Script Factory (66/67 Wells Street, London) and costs £30 (+VAT).

  • Reminder: Westminster Arts Awards 2007 – Call for Applications

    The Westminster Arts Film Bursary Awards 2007 are now open for applications. Up to £4,000 is available to film-makers who live, work or study in Westminster for the production of new work or the completion of film projects.

    The Westminster Arts Photographic Bursary Award 2007 is also open for applications. Up to £1,000 is available to photographers who live, work or study in Westminster for the production of new work.

    The deadline for applications for both awards is noon on 29 June.

  • Reminder: Interact Placement - PEALS, Newcastle upon Tyne

    Arts Council England with Dott 07, are offering the opportunity for an artist to develop their practice with the Policy, Ethics and Life Sciences (PEALS) Research Centre, Newcastle upon Tyne.

    PEALS has an international reputation and has promoted research and debate on the social and ethical aspects of genetics, reproductive technologies and stem cell research.

    The placement offers an artists fee of £8,000, plus a budget for accommodation and expenses. The placement is for a three month period, starting no later than mid September 2007. The placement is open to artists working in the visual arts who are living and working in England.

    Deadline for applications is 5pm, Friday 6 July.

  • And Finally…

    On Wednesday 4 July Roxy Bar & Screen (London Bridge) hosts a presentation of Max Hattler's (FLAMIN One to One recipient) artist film and experimental music video work. The screening includes exclusive previews of his recent works, Drift (a collaboration with new music composer Mark Bowden) and Mount Allen (a collaboration with avant-rockers Economy Wolf) as well as previous work such as Collision and Everything Turns.

    The screening starts at 8pm, and there is no entry charge.
