  • Deadline Extension: One to One Advice Sessions *

    Film London Artists' Moving Image Network's latest programme of developmental one to one advice sessions is now open for applications.

    Up to six artists will be selected to take part in a programme of three to four bespoke sessions which will be scheduled from March to May 2007. Artists are invited to apply specifying particular areas of focus that they feel would best serve to develop their career and practice.

    The deadline for applications is now Wednesday 7 March.

  • Fine Art to Film *

    Is fine art film if it's shown in the cinema? How is a film affected by being shown in a gallery? When is an artist an artist and when is she a film-maker? Birds Eye View, in partnership with Film London Artists' Moving Image Network, will explore the increasingly regularly crossed boundary between fine art and film.

    In a panel discussion groundbreaking artists and film-makers, including LAFVA-funded Carol Morley, Clio Barnard and Miranda Pennell, will show extracts of their work. A screening of The Family, an Artists' Moving Image Network-supported work, from Turner Prize winning Gillian Wearing.

    The session which is part of the Birds Eye View Film Festival will take place at 6.30pm, Monday 12 March at the ICA. Further information can be found on the Birds Eye View website.
  • Call for Submissions – animate! TV

    animate! tv seeks proposals from UK based artists and animators for risk taking and experimental films for television. They will be commissioning five films, with budgets up to £20,000.

    animate!tv is funded by Arts Council England and Channel 4.

  • Aural History

    Aural History, a new online exhibition presented by the British Artists' Film and Video Study Collection, revisits the early history of the London Filmmakers' Film Co-op.

    The exhibition is based on interviews with some of the most influential London Filmmakers' Co-op members. They were recorded by the scholar and Film Co-op activist Deke Dusinberre in 1975 as he worked on his PhD thesis 'English Avant-Garde Cinema' at the Slade School of Art.

    The Study Collection is a unique resource, comprising an extensive range of reference materials including video copies of artists' works, still images, historical posters, publicity materials, paper documentation and a publications library.

  • CAPTURE Present - The Changing Role of the Producer in Artists' Moving Image

    With moving image now prevalent in many areas of artist practice and the platforms for the exhibition and distribution of moving image works multiplying, CAPTURE is facilitating a panel discussion on the effects that these changes have had on the role and skills of the Producer.

    The discussion will cover the changing role and skills of Producers in artists' film and video, dance and the moving image, digital media, packaged content and television.

    Confirmed speakers include: Anne Beresford (Producer, MJW Productions), John Wyver (Chairman, Illuminations) and Portland Green (Interim Director CAPTURE and Director PortlandGreen Cultural Projects).

    The event will be taking place from 5.30 – 7pm on Friday 30 March at Cinema 3 of Rich Mix (35-47 Bethnal Green Road, E1). There is no charge to attend. Places are limited so booking is recommended. You can reserve your place by e-mailing: captureinfo@gmail.com or call 0845-CAPTURE.
  • John Smith on tank.tv

    tank.tv are pleased to announce an exhibition with long term friend and collaborator, John Smith. As one of the most important British film and video artists of his generation Smith's retrospective on the tank.tv website will include some of his key works.

    The exhibition will include the full length showing of: Om, Gargantuan, The Waste Land and Pyramids/Skunk. It will also include excerpts from a number of other works including 2002 LAFVA-funded Worst Case Scenario.

    John Smith is online on tank.tv's website from 1 March to 15 April.

  • Reminder: Call for Submissions - The Bigger Picture

    The Bigger Picture is inviting proposals for the production of exceptional new public realm works to be launched on Big Screen Manchester at the time of the Urban Screens Conference Manchester 07 (11 - 12 October), and to tour to partner city Big Screens and public sites throughout 2007/8.

    Four new works will be commissioned, each with an attached fee of £5,000 based on an agreed budget, of up to £10,000 for production. There are 4 National Commissioning partners, Cornerhouse (Manchester), ENTER (Cambridge), Lumen (Leeds) and Site Gallery (Sheffield). Each will lead on the production of one of the works.

    The deadline for proposals is 30 March.

  • Reminder: Film London's Film-makers' Festival Fund

    Film London's Film-makers' Festival Fund (FFF) is open for applications. The fund aims to support the development of moving image artists' and film-makers' careers, by providing travel grants for attendance at a number of overseas festivals where films have been selected and are in competition. The full list of eligible festivals can be downloaded from the Film London website.

    In a number of festivals where films are in competition, contributions are also available towards costs of striking a first film print or production of digital masters where required by the festival for screening.

  • And finally…

    animate! and The Finnish Institute present the international premiere of a new autobiographical animation Learned by Heart by film-maker Marjut Rimminen.

    Also showing will be her 1996 multi-Grand Prix-ed work Many Happy Returns, plus her startling account of a brutalised life Some Protection. After the screening Rimminen will be in conversation with Gareth Evans (editor of Vertigo magazine).

    The screening will take place at the Curzon Soho on Tuesday 13 March at 6pm. Tickets are £5.50 (£4.50 concessions).
