Bristol Mean Time*

The Film London Artists’ Moving Image Network in partnership with Picture This are inviting London based artists to apply for a three month moving image residency based at Spike Island in Bristol.
The residency will take place between July and September 2007 offering the selected artist an opportunity to develop new moving image work in a unique supportive and creative environment.
The residency programme will offer curatorial and technical mentoring and support as well as accommodation, a production budget of up to £4,000 and artist’s fee of £3,000.
The selected artist with have access to full production, post-production and exhibition technology, studio and office space at Picture This. The artist will be invited to both produce and exhibit a new project within Picture This’ new Atelier at Spike Island.
The residency and exhibition will form part of the Atelier opening programme which includes Marcus Coates Dawn Chorus (28 June to 5 August) and Rosalind Nashashibi Bachelor Machines (15 September to 14 October).
Picture This is a Bristol based agency that draws upon its unique understanding of moving image technology and contemporary art to produce and exhibit new art works involving a diverse range of collaborators and audiences.
In order to apply, artists must be a London resident with experience in producing moving image work and be able to demonstrate innovation, conceptual rigour and commitment to their practice.
The deadline for applications is 5pm Thursday 31 May 2007.

* Until the dawn of the railways local time for the people of Bristol was 10 minutes faster than Greenwich Mean Time, based on the city’s latitudinal position relative to the Greenwich Meridian Line in London.
To this day the clock over the old Corn Exchange in Bristol has two minute hands. The black minute hand shows Greenwich Mean Time while the red minute hand shows Bristol time.
