  • Bristol Mean Time, London Artists' Moving Image Residency*

    Film London Artists' Moving Image Network (FLAMIN) and Picture This would like to invite artists to apply for an opportunity to spend July to September 2007 in Bristol developing new film and video work in a unique supportive and creative environment. The artist will be invited to both produce and exhibit a new project within Picture This' Atelier at Spike Island.

    The residency incorporates: access to studio and office space at Picture This in Bristol; production, post-production and exhibition technology; curatorial and technical mentoring and support; accommodation and travel costs; production budget of up to £4,000; artist's fee of £3,000; an exhibition of new work in Winter 2007 (exact dates tbc).

    The deadline for applications is 5pm, Thursday 31 May.

  • 'Vision On' DVD of Artists' Works Out Now With Vertigo's April Issue*

    The new issue of Vertigo magazine is out now with an exclusive DVD of artists' films, featuring work produced through the London Artists' Film and Video Awards (LAFVA). The DVD has been produced by Film London Artists' Moving Image Network in collaboration with Vertigo, and features a selection of recent visionary works by Andrew Kötting, Desperate Optimists, Tim Shore, Carol Morley, Hannah Collins, Georgina Starr, Jonathan Hodgson and Chris Newby.

    The April issue of Vertigo includes interviews with Terry Gilliam, Ray Lawrence (Lantana) on his new film Jindabyne, seminal Czech animator Jan Svankmejer on his life and work and new film Lunacy, Stephen Kijak on his new documentary Scott Walker: 30 Century Man and Philip Gröning on his extraordinary new film Into Great Silence.

    There will be a launch event for Vertigo's new issue on Tuesday 8 May at the Curzon Soho, featuring films by Derek Jarman, Stan Brakhage, Jan Svankmejer, Andrew Kotting, Edouard Sallier and Tereza Stehlikova.

  • Hannah Collins Premiere Screening*

    On Wednesday 23 May (6.10pm) the latest in an ongoing series of FLAMIN supported artist screenings at the BFI Southbank will present the London premiere of Hannah Collins' 2006 LAFVA-funded Current History.

    Filmed in Beshencevo, a village situated on the outskirts of the Central Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod, Current History follows the Chiline family and other inhabitants of the village, as they each adapt differently to life in the post-Soviet era.

    Following the screening Collins will be in discussion with curator Mark Nash.

  • The Subjective Camera – Michael Maziere*

    The Subjective Camera is a series of retrospective film screenings of six film artists whose work examines subjectivity with an analysis of film language. The screenings taking place throughout April and May at Greenwich Picturehouse will each be followed by a question and answer session with the artist.

    The fourth session within the series focuses on Michael Maziere on 16 May, 6.45pm. Works to be screened include The Bathers, Swimmer and the London premiere of the 2005 LAFVA-supported film, Assassin.

  • The FourDocs Week on 3 Minute Wonder

    FourDocs are currently selecting 4 FourDocs to be screened on Channel 4 in June, in their 3 Minute Wonder strand. The chosen ones will get an online edit to polish the film up, and a broadcast credit to their name.

    They are considering everything published in the last 12 months, and anything uploaded before Friday 11 May to the FourDocs website.
  • Bristol Encounters Short Film Festival – Call for Entries

    Submissions for this year's Encounters Festival (Bristol, 21 – 25 November) are open online now. They are looking for works of a maximum duration of 30 minutes, including credits. An announcement of the selected films will be made in early August.

    The deadline for entries is Thursday 31 May.

  • One Minute Film and Video Festival - Call for Submissions

    The One Minute Film & Video Festival Aarau (Switzerland) is now open to short films up to 60 seconds. Films can be submitted in the 4 following categories: Art/Experimental; Animation; Fiction/Documentary; Youth/U20.

    The deadline for submissions is 30 June.

  • Bigger Picture, Manchester – Call for submissions

    The Bigger Picture is a curated programme that screens and commissions work by established and emerging practitioners. For the latest round The Bigger Picture are encouraging submissions from screen dance artists and those exploring dance, moves and rhythm on film.

    Selected material will be screened for a minimum of two weeks as part of a 30 – 45 minute programme that runs five times a day on The Big Screen in Exchange Square, Manchester.

    The deadline for applications is 18 May at 12pm.

    Throughout May no.w.here are running a number of courses including: Bolex 16mm camera, 5 May, 9.30am - 6pm, cost £100; 8 /16mm colour negative hand processing, 12 May, 10.30am – 5pm, cost £55; 16mm contact printing, 18 May, 10.30am - 5pm, cost £55.

  • Artquest Forum 07/08 – Artist Networks

    Artquest continues to support informal artists' networks in London with Forum, a series of monthly group meetings led and attended by practitioners.

    Artquest will initiate up to four groups to run from September 2007 to March 2008. They are looking for established visual arts and crafts practitioners willing to administer and organise monthly sessions and invite members.

    The deadline for submissions is Friday 15 June.

  • 3 Months in Berlin

    Artquest, in partnership with ACAVA, is initiating a new three month visual arts studio residency in Berlin from September 2007.
    This is an exciting opportunity for a London based visual arts / crafts practitioner to make new work in one of Europe's most dynamic cities. Artquest / ACAVA will provide a free live / work studio for three months, return air fare and a small bursary.

    The deadline for applications is Friday 13 July.

  • Artprojx Events

    Artprojx and the Prince Charles Cinema present two screenings in May.

    Crackers, a film by David Austen will be screened at the Prince Charles Cinema on Wednesday 16 May (6.15pm). Tickets are £7.50 (£5 for artists, curators and students).

    On Monday 21 May (6.15pm) a documentary on portrait painter Alice Neel will be screened. Tickets are £10 (half-price for artists and students).

  • The Great North Run – Moving Image Commission

    This major commission offers £30,000 to respond to the BUPA Great North Run, the world's biggest half marathon on 30 September 2007. Artists with at least three years post-graduate experience are invited to submit expressions of interest.

    The final work will be launched in the North East as part of the 2008 Great North Run Cultural Programme, with an extract screened during the BBC's live coverage of the BUPA Great North Run. The work will then be included in a national tour.

    Closing date for expressions of interest Monday 11 June.

  • The Arts Debate

    The Arts Debate is the Arts Council's first-ever public value inquiry. They are planning for the future of public spending and want everyone to have a say.

  • Visit the Calls for Submissions page on the Film London Artists' Moving Image Network website for listings of forthcoming deadlines for a range of festivals, funds, residencies and other opportunities open to artists working in the moving image.
  • And finally…

    Artist Rosalind Nashashibi presents a night of films and performances as part of Late at Tate, including work by Thomas Bayrle, Bonnie Camplin, Morgan Fisher, John Smith, Apitchatpong Weerasethakul and performances by Sue Tompkins and Will Holder.

    'Select', a collaboration with LUX, invites artists to select a programme of film and video works and host an evening of screenings and talks.

    The event will take place on Friday 4 May, 8pm at Tate Britain, Clore Auditorium. There is no charge to attend. Tickets are available on the night from 6pm at the Clore Foyer desk, and will be allocated on a first-come, first served basis.
