  • Film London Film-makers' Festival Fund *

    The Film London Film-makers' Festival Fund (FFF) is now open for applications. The fund aims to support the development of moving image artists' and film-makers' careers, by providing travel grants for attendance at a number of overseas festivals where films have been selected and are in competition.

    Artist film-makers previously supported through the scheme include Sarah Pucill, Michael Maziere, David Austen, Osbert Parker, Ben Rivers and Stephen Connolly.

    Deadlines for the fund will take place on a monthly basis, the next is 16 December 2008.

  • Michael Snow at BFI Southbank

    The latest exhibition at BFI Southbank Gallery, from 5 December until 1 February, presents a series of moving image works by Michael Snow. The exhibition consists of several distinctly different works, including: SSHTOORRTY (2005); That / Cela / Dat (1999); Observer (1974) and Sheeploop (2000).

    On Saturday 6 December (6.10pm), NFT 3 will host Michael Snow in Conversation with Elisabetta Fabrizi, BFI Head of Exhibitions and Chris Meigh-Andrews, artist and academic. A programme of screenings of Michael Snow's films, including titles introduced by the artist himself accompanies the exhibiition.

  • The Body as Source – Call for Artists

    Transitions Dance Company are currently looking for artists working in all disciplines (film artists, visual artists, photographers, designers, sculptors) to work with the company on a 3-5 week research project during the academic year 2009/2010.

    Transitions Dance Company was founded by Bonnie Bird (1914-1995), and was set up to bridge the gap between education and professional training. Their objective is to foster the value of research in an interdisciplinary project allowing deeper exploration, collaboration and exchange.

    Applicants should have at least 3 years professional experience in their art form.

    To apply please submit a CV plus a 500 word proposal detailing your research idea by 9 January 2009 to Lisa Scott, Administrative Manager – l.scott@laban.org


  • The School of Sound 2009

    The eighth School of Sound series of international masterclasses will take place between 15 and 18 April 2009 at the Purcell Room of London's Southbank Centre.

    The programme will include presentations from animator and experimental film-maker Phil Solomon, plus sound design in feature film-making (with sessions from Pat Jackson – longtime collaborator with Walter Murch, Steve Munro - sound editor for Atom Egoyan, and French sound designer and music producer Daniel Deshays), as well as the use of sound in Indian film, documentary sound design, the neurology of sound, radio and recording.

    Skillset bursaries are applicable for UK professionals and a limited number of student bursaries are available.

  • GSK Contemporary

    GSK Contemporary presents a season of contemporary art featuring more than 20 exhibitions, 40 live events and 100 film screenings, at the Royal Academy of Arts.

    The programme is divided into two main parts; Part 1, Molten States, explores the links between art, performance and experimental theatre. Part 2, Collision Course, will reveal an apocalyptic vision, including a tribute to the artistic legacy of William Burroughs.

    On Saturday 20 December (5pm) Carol Morley's 2005 LAFVA-funded The Madness of the Dance will be screening as part of the Hysteria on Film event, alongside Programme (Second Edition) by Richard Squires.

  • Emily Richardson's Cobra Mist

    On Tuesday 9 December 2008 (7pm), Café Oto in Dalston will host a special screening of previous LAFVA awardee Emily Richardson's new film Cobra Mist. The screening is part of an expanded cinema event with live sound performances by Cobra Mist sound recordist and composer Chris Watson and Benedict Drew.

    The event celebrates the launch of a DVD release of Emily Richardson, 6 Films published by LUX. The DVD contains six recent film works by Richardson with a new essay by William Fowler, Curator of Artists Moving Image at the BFI National Archive.

  • LAFVA Exhibitions Round-up…

    Ah, Liberty! (LAFVA 2007) by Ben Rivers and Drum Room (LAFVA 2006) by Miranda Pennell will be screening as part of Rencontres Internationales, Paris until 7 December, at various venues including the Centre Pompidou.

    Roz Mortimer's 2001 LAFVA-funded film Dog of My Dreams will be included as part of The Animal Gaze at Unit 2 Gallery until 12 December.

    Suki Chan's Interval II (LAFVA 2007) will be showing at the Chinese Arts Centre in Manchester until 22 December. Suki Chan's video installation, Tomorrow is Our Permanent Address, will also be showing at Gallery One One One until 23 December.

    Sarah Dobai's 2006 LAFVA-funded Nettlecombe will be shown within a solo show of the artists work at Galerie Zurcher in Paris until 6 January.

    Jonathan Hodgson's 2005 LAFVA-funded Forest Murmurs is showing alongside work by Cleo Broda at Workplace Co-operative 115 in Kentish Town from until 16 January.
  • AnimateTV: Latest Commissions

    Seven new films commissioned by Animate Projects in association with Channel 4 and Arts Council England are now available to view online, along with interviews with the artists.

    The works, by: Barnaby Barford; Suky Best; Stephen Irwin; Michael Aubtin Madadi; Emily Richardson; Tal Rosner and Christoph Steger will also tour various venues throughout the UK.

    The films will be showing at Tate Modern on Friday 5 December (7pm), alongside a Q&A with all the artists.

  • Stomper: Call for Submissions

    Stomper is an event exploring the collaborative possibilities for music, film, art and video. With a history of carrying out events at venues both nationally and internationally, Stomper was originally launched in New York and has since expanded to the London art community.

    It currently manifests itself as a monthly event, consisting of an artist video screening, followed by DJ sets in London. Stomper provides a forum for artists, musicians and film-makers to converge and showcase their works.
