FLAMIN Productions at Whitechapel
Date posted: 03.09.2010
On Thursday 9 September (7pm), the Whitechapel Gallery will host the latest in FLAMIN's ongoing series of events focusing on the work of FLAMIN Productions commissioned artists, with an event programmed by Charlotte Ginsborg.
Charlotte Ginsborg's FLAMIN Productions commissioned project, Melior Street, takes its title from the street in south London in which the film is set and filmed using a cast of local people who Ginsborg recruited to act out documentary scenes, fictional scenarios and songs.
For this event at the Whitechapel, Ginsborg has chosen to present a selection of film, music and spoken word which has informed the production of her new work.
'The evening will focus on three distinct influences on my practice: music, film image, and narrative. It will feature work by two of the collaborators I have been working with to develop my new film, Gabriel Gbadamosi and Gabriel Prokofiev, as well as a screening of Slow Glass by John Smith, which I saw first when I was nineteen and inspired me to make films. All three works are framed by, and for me are a reflection of what it is to experience the vibrancy and onslaught of London.'
