Film London at 2019 Sustainable Filming Conference

Date posted: 09.04.2019

At the end of March, Film London attended the 2019 Green Screen Sustainable Filming Conference hosted by Promalaga in Malaga, alongside the seven other European partners of Green Screen, to discuss the environmental impact of film and TV productions as well as current and future sustainable practices.

The conference discussed a range of topics, many of which were attended and chaired by Adrian Wootton, OBE, Chief Executive of Film London and the British Film Commission.

With the opening panel presenting a series of thought provoking feature films, documentaries and animation highlighting the impact film production has on environmental issues, discussion then turned toward how the Film and Culture sector can act as a change maker.

Melanie Dicks, Managing Partner and Co-founder of Greenshoot, contributed to panel discussions relaying the success of a Film London and Greenshoot partnership, also entitled Green Screen, that has saved 40,000 tonnes of CO2 in the last 10 years. This provided great encouragement for the afternoon, which saw a series of roundtable discussions ranging from the cost to productions of being green to how to embed sustainability at Policy level.

Film London is the Lead Partner on Green Screen, an Interreg Europe funded project which aims to reduce the carbon footprint of European film & TV production.
