British films bring home Oscar gold

This Sunday saw the 92nd edition of the annual Academy Awards, taking place in Los Angeles. Bong Joon-ho's universally beloved film Parasite was the talk of the evening, making history and breaking a number of records as it became the first film not in the English language to win Best Picture, as well as the first South Korean film to win Best International Feature, as well as Original Screenplay and Best Director.

Alongside Parasite's sweep, a number of British productions claimed honours in various categories, one of the main ones of the night being Renee Zellweger's win for Best Actress for her leading role in Judy, which was filmed at Pinewood Studios (whose Creative Services and Creative Audio houses provided localisation for other award winners of the night including Joker and Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon A Time In... Hollywood) and in and around various London locations including Hackney Empire, West London Studios and the Noël Coward Theatre.

UK production 1917 took home multiple technical honours, including Best Cinematography for English cinematographer Roger Deakins as well as Sound Mixing, while British Visual effects company MPC picked up the award for Best Visual Effects for their work on completing the film. MPC had also received nominations in Best Visual Effects for their work on Disney's 2019 update of The Lion King1917was shot on location in various parts of the UK, including in Salisbury, Hankley Common in Surrey, Glasgow as well as at London's Shepperton Studios.

Meanwhile, Rocketman (partly filmed on location in the UK and at Bray Studios) picked up Best Original Song for its piece "I'm Gonna Love Me Again", written by the film's subject, Elton John. Rocketman was filmed in Bray Studios, as well as locations like the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Academy of Music, Abbey Road Studios, and various parts of North London where Elton John grew up.
