Film Festivals - International

Image of Cinema audience

There are a huge amount of festivals across the world. When thinking about submitting your work to an international festival it is important to bear in mind that you will be competing not only with other British films (as with most UK festivals which have a UK emphasis), but also with international work. It is then doubly important to select the right festivals to approach to ensure you have a decent chance of having your work screened.

Most European festivals listed here do not have any entry fee, but fees are very common in the USA and Canada. For each festival we have listed the duration, the deadline for submissions and whether you can expect an entry fee.

The international festivals listing is broken into three separate sections:

For further listings of festivals and assistance with approaching them we recommend the following sites:

Britfilms
Britfilms contains many features detailing British film production (shorts and features). Their Directory of International Film and Video Festivals is a searchable database of 600 festivals around the world. You can search by genre, deadline, month country to find full details.

LUX
The LUX website contains extensive information for individuals and organisations. It includes a comprehensive listing of festivals open to artists' film and video in the Resource section of their website as well as in their Distribution Guide.

Withoutabox
Withoutabox operates an online festival submission service. This service streamlines the entire festival submission process. Once signed up to their website (a fee is required) film-makers submit their details on the site and then can send these out directly to the numerous festivals collaborating with Withoutabox.
