Ayshe's Tale
Synopsis
Set within the Turkish community of Dalston and Stoke Newington, Ayshe’s Tale celebrates the multi-ethnic diversity of this part of East London.
The film is a visual platform from which the monologues and dialogues of the radio play are expanded. The picture is not a direct illustration of the narrative, rather, it is a “portrait of place” and in this way, the film creates a space from which the story unfolds to maximise the ways in which words, music and image form the construction of meaning. The kinetic rhythm of tracking shots are primary agents to the overall poetic construction.
About The City Speaks:
Co-produced by BBC Radio 4 and Film London Artists' Moving Image Network, The City Speaks: A Film for Radio, is a multi-faceted portrayal of London created for radio, cinema and television. Artist film-makers were commissioned to collaborate with radio writers to produce a unique portrait of London. Responding to a narrative framework by writer Peter Ackroyd, the artist and writer teams created a film in six sections.
The City Speaks was supported by an Arts Council England Grants for the Arts Award.
