Synopsis
The voice of a Gambian woman, Salingding, tells the remarkable story of her family history and her sixteen-month journey across 3000 miles of West Africa.
Deadline's narrative is neither wholly based on fact nor purely imagined, an amalgamation of stories from several different individuals living in a Gambian fishing village; a mixture of local folklore and actual histories.
The imagery itself alludes to various aspects of the monologue and is imbued with a kind of hypnotic quality through the use of slow, but often very extended, camera movements. Multi coloured snake-like bodies move slowly across the screen and a glass rabbit drops blood, upwards, from its head.
